Round Generation
Round Generation Options in Sports Court Manager
Sports Court Manager includes three ways to generate upcoming rounds. Each option is designed for a different style of session, from casual play through to more organised rotations where fairness and variety matter.
Sports Court Manager includes Random generation for all users. Fair Sit-Out Rotation and Balanced Rotation are available with Sports Court Manager Pro, available via an in-app purchase.
Random
Random generation is the simplest option.
It quickly creates the next round from the available session players. This is useful when you want the app to fill the courts quickly, but you still expect to make manual changes yourself.
Random generation does not take account of player skill, previous partners, previous opponents, or how often players have sat out. It is best suited to casual sessions, small groups, or situations where the organiser wants a fast starting point rather than a carefully balanced plan.
Fair Sit-Out Rotation (Pro)
Fair Sit-Out Rotation is designed to make waiting fairer.
This option prioritises players who have sat out more often, helping bring waiting players back into play before players who have already had more court time. When upcoming rounds are generated, Sports Court Manager uses projected sit-out scores so that the plan remains fair across the previewed rounds.
The current round shows each player’s actual sit-out count. Future rounds show a projected sit-out count based on the rounds already planned.
Fair Sit-Out Rotation is useful for larger groups where the main concern is making sure everyone gets a fair amount of playing time. It does not attempt to balance skill levels or avoid repeat partners and opponents.
Balanced Rotation (Pro)
Balanced Rotation is a more advanced option.
It starts with fair sit-out rotation, then also considers player skill levels and recent playing history. The aim is to create rounds that are fair, varied, and reasonably balanced.
Balanced Rotation tries to reduce repeated partnerships, avoid repeated opponents where possible, and balance the skill level between the two sides of a court. For four-player courts, the first two players are treated as one side and the last two players as the other side.
This option works best when player skill levels have been entered. It is ideal for organised sessions where the coordinator wants less manual reshuffling and a better spread of partners, opponents, and game balance.
Note : Skill Matched Rotation is a Court Manager Pro feature.
Skill Matched Rotation (Pro)
Skill Matched Rotation helps create games where players are closer in ability. Instead of simply filling courts at random, Sports Court Manager looks at each player’s skill rating and prioritises grouping players with similar skill levels together.
This is useful for clubs and social sessions where players have a wide range of experience. Stronger players are more likely to be matched with other stronger players, while newer or developing players are more likely to play in games closer to their current level.
Skill Matched Rotation also considers partner variety, helping reduce repeated pairings while still keeping skill matching as the main priority.
Good For
- Sessions with mixed ability levels
- Clubs that want more evenly matched games
- Helping newer players avoid consistently difficult matchups
- Giving experienced players more challenging games
- Organisers who want quick, sensible court assignments
Note
Skill Matched Rotation is a Court Manager Pro feature.
Generated Rounds Are Previews
Generating rounds does not change the current round.
Upcoming rounds are previews that can still be adjusted before they are played. Players can be swapped, dragged between courts and waiting lists, or an upcoming round can be removed and regenerated.
This gives organisers a useful balance: the app can do the heavy lifting, but the coordinator still stays in control.
